Acupuncture services are back at WHPC! Welcome Guna - Registered Acupuncturist

Gundega Auzina, Registered Acupuncturist

We’re excited to introduce Registered Acupuncturist, Gundega (Guna), who specializes in helping clients find balance and relief through acupuncture.

Acupuncture has been shown to regulate the nervous system, reduce cortisol levels, and promote deep relaxation. By targeting specific points on the body, it encourages energy flow (Qi) and helps restore harmony. Whether you struggle with anxiety, tension headaches, trouble sleeping, hormonal symptoms, chronic pains, acupuncture could be the natural solution you’ve been looking for.

The session is built around you. Guna will carefully assess your tension and the main cause of it, be it mental or physical or both. Downregulating your nervous system is the goal (bye-bye fight, flight or freeze). This allows your body to rest on a cellular and nervous system level. Clients usually feel a warmth sensation and a deep sense of calm, sometimes they even fall asleep! Guna uses a customized combination on Tui Na massage, gentle cupping, a selection of acupuncture points created for deep restoration and relaxation. The focus here is comfort, relaxation, and deep care.

How Acupuncture Relieves Stress

  1. Regulating the Nervous System

    • Acupuncture activates the parasympathetic nervous system (the "rest and digest" system), reducing sympathetic overactivity (fight-or-flight response).

    • It modulates the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, which controls the body's stress response and cortisol production.

  2. Balancing Neurotransmitters & Hormones

    • Acupuncture increases levels of endorphinsserotonin, and dopamine, promoting relaxation and emotional well-being.

    • It reduces cortisol, a stress hormone that, when elevated, contributes to anxiety and tension.

  3. Improving Blood Flow & Oxygenation

    • Acupuncture enhances circulation, which can relieve symptoms like headaches, muscle tension, and fatigue, which are commonly associated with stress

2013 double-blind, randomized controlled trial published in the Journal of Endocrinology investigated the effects of acupuncture on stress-related hormone levels.

  • The real acupuncture group showed significant reductions in cortisol levels compared to the sham group.

  • Participants in the acupuncture group also reported lower stress perception and improved sleep.

  • The study concluded that TCM acupuncture effectively regulates stress-related neuroendocrine responses.
